Yohji has to be one of the most well respected designers in my life, each piece will always tell a story no matter
how simple it looks. Well executed craftsmanship to execellent choice in fabrics. Loosely fitted double breasted jackets with mandarin collars & long flowing pleasted skirts, cant go wrong? I think so. The mesh netting under the coat isnt half bad either. Playing with different cuts has always been something that attracts me to yohji's designs and every season his style is always intact.

LIMI FEU FALL 2010


Limi in a way to me embodies a feminin Yohji, the man is obviously her father and the apple doesnt fall far from the tree, which really shows in her style of designing. She definitely isnt afraid to play with different types of silhouettes & creating that dangerous frumpy kind of girl.

Quivering in the presence of Leonor

Leonor Scherrer is just one of those women who will basically make my head turn during a conversation with someone else. Time itself will take a moment in bask in her presence, she reminds me of a lecturer I spoke to during one of my university interviews. Leonor's shaved sides & wavy slicked back hair just gives me that nostalgic feeling. I love the intensity in her eyes and the way she potrays herself in photos. One things for sure, I wouldn't be able to breath if she ever came to see any of my collections.

Back to basics

Lately I've been quite slack with drawing, I don't know why but I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment since it's the holidays and of course semester two starts in 2 weeks. It all depends on whether I want to keep on studying or find a job. Anyways here are two drawings I finished yesterday and today. I'm not 100% confident with drawing especially adding shading & stuff which can get quite tedious. I think I'll do a drawing each day.

Willhelm!!

Bernhard is just one of those designers that blows my mind away, not so much in a good way kind of like wow what are you on when you come up with these designs?!. But he never ceases to amaze me with his signature designs, its almost quirky and playful with a hint of comicality and the same goes for Walter Van Beirendonck & Henrik Vibskov. I haven't been a fan of Bernhard for very long, I only came into realization when he designed the rainbow dress for Bjork during the making of her Volta album. In this collection he favors alot of camo and the use of the orange material which reminds me alot of the colour Buddhist monks use in their robes. He is by far one of the most experimental designers I've come come across. Hes doing his own thing and that's what it should be about.

Simian Epidemic

For some reason Christopher Kanes explosion T- shirts didn't wow me as much as his primate print T-shirts.
Possibly due to the reason of Ksubi who already came up with the mushroom cloud T-shirts earlier. Though I would like one of these wicked T-shirts, the colours are highly saturated being such a bold statement it'll definitely go with any pair of jeans! or even an unzipped leather jacket over it. I dont know about you but thats how I'd wear mine. Gimme the baboon thanx!

I came across these two items today on the net, having no idea who made them but tell me if you do.

Especially the shoes cause they look wicked!

Wu Yong "Useless"

Ma Ke a chinese born designer who was nominated for her "Wu Yong" collection, which launched in 2007 in Paris. The voluminous, sculptural garments that make up "Wu Yong" celebrate form over function and beauty before practicality (the title "Wu Yong" translates to "Useless"). Some have described Ma Ke's work as "anti-fashion," but we see her following in a long tradition of highly creative fashion that is often more esoteric and conceptual than wearable.

Ma Ke says she is more interested in creating, "things which are the bearers of values for the future." On this basis she rejects fast fashion trends and only works with artisans using hand looms. Alot of her work reminds me of Kawakubo & Yamamotos pret-a-porter show in October 1982 which was held in paris.

Heres some stuff I made during my "study break". The simple mood board above shows the direction of where my designs were heading. I'm not going to write a whole essay on my work, I'll let you be the judge. (back of the jacket isn't finished)

X-ray Vision

Ahh! I've been contemplating on getting one of these but never got around to doing it. My ex flatmates had the whole collection, my favorites are the x-rays (above). Their by Karen Walker. I went into sunglasses hut the other day and there's a clearance sale on the x-rays, they were about $300 + but now they're down to $160 which is incredibly wicked!! They only had the black ones which is still wicked!, I tried on the white ones which look nice aswell, especially contrasted against my bowl cut haha. I'll have them in about a week! can't wait!!

Chanel Resort 2009-2010

I was quite disappointed by most of the new collections. Well summer/spring isnt usually my forte. But this certain Chanel collection has to one of my favorites!, Karl seems to have that gift of picking the perfect scene/location for his collections to pour out onto.The collection was almost perfect until the whole Chanel monogram was imprinted all over the shoal and dress, aswell as the pink tweed jacket being un buttoned which gave it that sexy feel which took me away from the whole sophisticated chanel look. Besides all that everything was still Chanel-esque, Looking through some of the pictures it gives you that sense of feel to that certain era, especially with the hair & make up. This is what I adore the most about Chanel. I hope to see more impressive collections soon.

A.F. Vandevorst AW 07

I was looking through some of my collection folders to see some of the changes designers go through each year. AF Vandervorst being the first on my list, one of the most inspirational designers to me. This collection here which catches my attetion the most, the use of muted colours and simple yet effective silhouettes and cuts. Theres something about a girl wearing a clean white shirt that arouses me. Its such a bold statement but in a discreet way. With winter close by the green tight wrap around shoal would be ideal. The modern black dress untainted but accompanied with a touch of lace.

La Grande Dame

These sorts of events do not take place often in the fashion world.It is a reflection not only on Mme Rykiel's supreme talent as a designer but also of the esteem in which her colleagues hold her. It is hard to imagine why she has been called Coco Rykiel, for Sonia Rykiel is beyond fashion, beyond style and most certainly beyond trend. She possesses what the french describe as a certain "je ne sais quoi": an intangibility; an allure that is impossible to define. Sonial Rykiel is in a class all of her own. She remains an enigma.

At her Spring/Summer show, thirty of the world's top designers including Karl Lagerfeld, Alber Elbaz and Jean Paul Gaultier, presented the house of Rykiel with a special birthday suprise; their own take on the Sonia Rykiel look.

Below are three of my favorite ensembles that really capture that Sonia Rykiel look.
